How We Help
Our ministry is built on the personal encounter — visiting neighbors in their homes, listening to their needs, and responding with whatever help we are able to offer.
The home visit —
person to person
At the core of everything we do is the home visit. It is not simply a mechanism for delivering assistance — it is an act of accompaniment. We go to our neighbors not as social workers or case managers, but as friends in Christ, seeking to understand the whole person before offering anything at all.
A Request Is Received
A neighbor reaches out by phone or email. Every request is acknowledged promptly and treated with complete confidentiality.
Two Vincentians Visit
We always go in pairs — rooted in the Gospel practice of Christ sending his disciples two by two, and required by the Rule of the Society. No Vincentian ever visits alone.
We Listen
Before anything else, we sit and listen. We seek to understand the neighbor's situation fully — not just the immediate need, but the deeper circumstances behind it.
We Respond With What We Can
Based on the visit and available resources, we provide whatever assistance we are able to offer — and connect the neighbor with other resources when needed.
Always Confidential
Everything shared during a visit stays within the Conference. The dignity and privacy of our neighbors is paramount.
Always in Pairs
Two Vincentians on every visit — protecting both member and neighbor, and reflecting our communal mission.
Faith-Driven, All-Welcoming
Our service flows from our Catholic faith, but we serve all neighbors regardless of religion, background, or circumstance.
Guided by the Rule
The Society's international Rule governs how we conduct visits — ensuring consistency, dignity, and integrity in every encounter.
"May our presence and care to those most in need reflect the gentleness, esteem and dignity we see reflected in the life and work of Jesus."
— St. Vincent de Paul, Patron of the Society
What we offer
our neighbors
As the Rule of the Society teaches, no form of charity is foreign to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Every situation is assessed individually, and our response is always guided by what is most needed and what resources allow.
We help neighbors facing disconnection or shut-off notices for electricity, water, and other essential utilities, provided directly to the utility provider following a home visit and assessment.
For neighbors facing eviction or housing instability, we provide emergency rental assistance when resources allow, and connect neighbors with longer-term housing support through partner agencies.
Each Advent season, our Giving Tree project provides holiday essentials and gifts for families in need — funded by the generosity of St. Paul Catholic Church parishioners. Gift cards extend care well into the new year.
We do not directly supply furniture, but we can provide neighbors with a voucher to our local SVDP thrift store, or connect them with community organizations that specialize in furniture and household goods assistance.
Connecting neighbors
to the right help
We are a small all-volunteer conference, and we cannot meet every need that comes to us. But we believe that a neighbor who reaches out should never leave without a path forward.
For food needs, we can refer neighbors to the parish food pantry and other local food assistance programs. For furniture, household goods, and other practical needs, we maintain relationships with community organizations better placed to help.
If you are unsure whether we can assist with your particular situation, please reach out anyway — the answer is always at least a conversation.
Not sure if we can help? Reach out anyway. If your need falls outside what we are able to provide, we will do our best to connect you with someone who can — because no neighbor should leave without at least a next step.
We're here.
Reach out to us.
If you or someone you know is in need of help, please don't hesitate to contact us. A Vincentian member will follow up with you personally — with care, confidentiality, and without judgment.
